Morpho Didius - 25 x 25cm

The Morpho Didius is one of the most iconic and admired butterflies in the world, celebrated for its dazzling metallic blue wings. With a wingspan reaching 12 to 15 centimeters, it is among the largest members of the Morpho family. Its upper wings shimmer with an intense, iridescent blue — a color effect created not by pigment, but by microscopic scales that reflect and refract light. In contrast, the undersides of the wings are patterned in earthy browns and grays, providing camouflage when the butterfly is at rest.

Native to South America, particularly the rainforests of Peru and surrounding regions, the Morpho Didius is most often seen gliding gracefully along riverbanks and forest edges. Its brilliant blue wings are not only mesmerizing to watch but also serve as a defense mechanism, flashing bright colors to startle predators.
